New York-based breakkaway have been earning attention for refusing to stay inside any one genre, mixing alt-rock, electronic experimentation and metal influences into a completely new sound that no others can come close to.
‘Run Away With Me’ is currently sitting on Kerrang! Radio’s K! Nights playlist, and could possibly be their strongest statement yet – rather than relying on heaviness, the song builds gradually before unleashing waves of emotion and intensity. The story behind this track is even more impactful – written while vocalist Jessica Li was still a teenager, the song explores feelings of displacement, rebellion and friendship with incredible honesty.
Along with their recent signing to Epitaph Records, this authenticity is a huge reason why breakkaway are starting to stand out above many others in the alternative scene. ‘Run Away With Me’ feels like the sound of a band who have discovered exactly who they want to be, and if this momentum continues, they could very easily become one of the breakout alternative acts of the next few years.
