  • Hi man, tnx for the airtime, glad to see u like it.

  • Thanks so much for the support mate!

  • I can imagine that many of the estates of the composers whose music is considered public domain, would love to make copyright money off of those compositions. So, why not try and get the current copyright laws extended?

And I don’t like golf. I don’t think I’d get into it even if I had big rock star money.

Given that major signed artists only ever make 1 to 2 points at most off their royalties (and remember 1 point=1% of royalties) then who do we think stands to benefit most from copyright extension?

And of course it’s only the mega selling artists that get any royalties at all in the first place, as they we’re the only ones who managed to pay off the advance (i.e. loan) from the record company. The rest have handed over the copyrights of their songs to the record companies and don’t make a cent as they never “recouped” their advance. (a typical advance on a major is around £80,000 for a first album, of which around 50k is marketing, 20k on the video and less than 10k on actually making the record. Of course the band have no say on how this is spent, even though it’s a loan made by the record company to them.)

Given that the internet has given artists the ability to form direct relationships with their fans without the need for the record companies distribution networks, what do you think we should do about this? (I don’t mean you Rowley, I know you get it, just a general question for everyone).

Anyway rant over, sorry about that, I have an unhealthy fascination with copyright law.

btw loving that Nehoryn tune. Great show again.

    Catch you later.
