BBC NEWS | Entertainment | TV and Radio | BBC Radio 1 to host John Peel Day

It's almost a year since Peelie died of a heart attack, and I feel it only seemed fitting when I heard that the BBC are doing a John Peel Day on the 13th October. I look forward to hearing all the great stuff he played, enlightening the masses that there was something a lot better than the dross you get in the charts.
He was a pioneer.

BBC NEWS
What? Eh? No, sorry can't hear you, speak up will you?

Evangelical Scientists Refute the existence of Gravity

'Things fall not because they are acted upon by some gravitational force, but because a higher intelligence, 'God' if you will, is pushing them down,'

Mm, physics not their strong point then?
Even the RCs have forgiven Gallileo now. I know science and religion don't walk hand in hand down the high street, but this is laughable, surely.

Mount St. Helens - Eruption Due?

A new dome Lava Dome has appeared in the last few days on Mt.St.Helens. If you remember last time this volcano went up it went pyroclastic and took a good third of itself away with it.
There is a movie there too showing movement on the mountain.
Due for another eruption? Well yes, I think so, but it will be nothing like what happened 25 years ago.

Ford hits back at Buerk remarks

BBC NEWS | Entertainment | TV and Radio | Ford hits back at Buerk remarks: "'All they are is sperm donors, and most women aren't going to want an unemployable sperm donor loafing around and making the house look untidy.'"
TV News presenters? Opinions? I thought they had those removed before taking the job.

Celebrity Atheists

You hear so much about Scientology and the Movies stars associated with it, quite a novel idea of making a list of non-religous Celebs, make them non-weird, and slightly more human you think?

Goblet of Fire Pics

Spoiler Pics ahoy.
Some really good shots of the Camp Site and of Mad Eye Moody in this.
It's a pity they are cutting out so much of the book, but I suppose truncating stories like this to film, something has to go missing. When I saw Prisoner of Azkasban, the first thing I did was say "Mmm, they missed out this that and the other".
Looking back, it didn;t make the film any worse. That's what a producer and directory do I suppose.

Enhanced Podcasts a la Jade Leary

Jade has making enhanced podcasts using AAC instead of MP3.
They are only compatible with iTunes and the iPod at the moment, but it allows you to see and navigate chapters, have pictures and live urls. Even with these added bonuses, the file size is slightly smaller than the standard podcast.
Novel. Not seen this type before, people have been lookling to see if they can do this kind of stuff with mp3, but the format is not versatile enough to support it, looks like Jade's hit the nail on the head with this "multimedia" podcasts format, albeit for only iPod/iTunes users for the time being.
Might give me an incentive to get an iPod.
Check it out at jadeleary.com, and take you iPod with you.
Comments on this please, it would be good to know what people think of this.

Feel Me

Click Me
Need a desktop change, but not the OS?
Then looks at this (click on pic)
This my my XP box, running Konfabulator for the Widgets and ObjectDock for the launchbar at the bottom.
Very Mac eh?
They don't use much memory either which is good.
Didn't feel like moving to Linux yet, as I still do lots of work related stuff on the laptop, and as we use Microsoft Exchange I need Outlook (mores the pity).
I do now have Suse 9.3 now, just waiting for when the time is right.
I'm not looking forward to Windows Vista. When it comes, I'll be leaving the Windows arena on the home front, I just cannot afford all these upgrades all the time.
