I'm not so sure this is a pity on balance, Ro. Yes it represents lost opportunities re furtherance of knowledge, but on whose terms band with what agenda? I'd rather the French or Germans were funding it. Anyone but Bush or Blair in fact.
The pity was that it would be bad for the world for the hubble telescope to become spacejunk.

I vote for TTL to maintain it, then Ro to go into space to update the OS and phonehome if he needs parts to be ordered :)
