I for one thnk that this article is pretty highbrow on the subject of podcasting.
They pretty much rated the majority of availible shows as abberations while the "techie" and music shows were accorded a level of respect. It seems clear to me that the tech industry is shaping their opinions on what they percieve to be a "real" podcast aside from those that are simply hobbyism.
I refute that assertion. I like podcasting as I do blogs such as this one because it is truly free, democratic speech. If you want to listen to it you simply download it. If you don't, then don't bother yourself. This is much better than accepting the mainstream, corporate agenda which I feel WIRED and most of the other podcasting critics are attempting to do for the major media. By insisting on professionally produced shows this leaves out the whole point of the medium. Which is free speech, everyman media.
Now, why would they do this? Ask yourself a question...you pays the bills for WIRED?
